Magic Pill(ar) of Health: Rest and Reset

πŸπŸ‚The change of seasons offers a change of scenery and often a reset.

🀯 Looking for some mental clarity? Have writer's block? Amped up from a recent conversation? Often a five to ten minute relaxed walk outside can work wonders to calm one's body and clear up one's mind. Sunlight helps to regulate the hormone melatonin which aids in our sleep rhythm.

You can check in with some of your senses along the way. Often a sense of calm is recognized as blood pressure and heart rate come down.

Pause 1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣ and notice what you see. How many hues of orange, yellow and red are present? Count the number of leaves you see falling in front of you over 60 seconds and concentrate on deep breathing into your belly and into your low back every few breaths.

What do you hear? How are the sounds of fall different from those of the other seasons?

What do you feel? Do you find comfort in the cozy sweater you put on this morning?

What do you smell? Often the nostalgia that accompanies these scents is in part, responsible for "all the good feels" thanks to the hormones serotonin and dopamine.

p.s. moving outside in a calm state may even help with gut and stomach distress.
