Movement: Rhythm & Routine Focus #1

Water and hydration for rhythm and routine and gut health

Let's focus on water!

Now you know the digestive system thrives from rhythm & routine, and that water plays a critical role in our regularity. Staying adequately hydrated helps to avoid constipation and/or diarrhea, providing consistency to your routine and bowel movements.

Adequate hydration from water is a must! Adequate water intake varies from body to body. One easy way to identify if you are adequately hydrated is to check the color of your urine. The darker the color the more fluids you need. A slight tint of yellow is a goal to work towards daily! If you like numbers, you can aim for 64oz as a starting point. Eight, 8oz glasses of water throughout the day and go from there after checking in with your body.

Try adding a glass of water to your routine first thing in the morning... even before that cup of coffee!

Keep hydration steady throughout the day. Guzzling one's needs in a single setting is not helpful.

Keep in mind your daily water intake can also come from hydrating fruits and vegetables, such as watermelon, cucumber, zucchini, celery, and tomatoes!

Many factors can contribute to the way our bowels move, pausing and paying attention to how and when you consume water throughout the day can have a positive impact on bowel movements.
